The BenQ AK700ST and LK936ST both offer 4K UHD projection, but they answer different installation needs. The AK700ST combines a shorter throw range with setup assistance. The LK936ST adds a higher published light output and optical lens shift. The useful question is which combination solves the problems in your golf room.
Start with the BenQ AK700ST and BenQ LK936ST listings, then compare the installation not just the price. This guide uses manufacturer specifications rather than claiming a hands-on performance test.
The specifications that affect the decision

Check where the lens can actually go
For a preliminary native 16:9 calculation, multiply image width by throw ratio. A ten-foot-wide picture gives an AK700ST lens distance of approximately 6.9–8.3 feet and an LK936ST distance of approximately 8.1–8.9 feet. Their overlap is relatively small. A ceiling point around seven feet from the screen favors a different shortlist from one around eight and a half feet away.
Those numbers describe the lens, not the back of the projector or the mounting bracket. They also do not describe the minimum room depth. Your plan must include the screen's rear clearance, enclosure frame, golfer, swing path, and any overhead launch monitor. For non-16:9 screen modes, check the complete projected frame and the manufacturer's planner rather than reusing the example blindly.
Lens shift and setup assistance do different jobs
Optical lens shift helps position the picture without tilting the entire projector to aim it. It is worth investigating when the available mounting location is offset from the ideal image alignment. The LK936ST's shift capabilities are an installation advantage only when they solve a real placement constraint.
Automatic fitting and focusing features address a different part of setup: getting the image aligned and focused after the projector is in a usable location. They are convenient, but they do not make every ceiling position suitable. Neither electronic adjustment nor optical shift substitutes for checking throw distance.
A practical order is to establish image size, determine possible lens locations, check offset and shift, and finally choose the bracket. Browse our projector mounts only after those requirements are clear.
How much weight should brightness receive?
The LK936ST has the higher ANSI-lumen specification. That is a reason to investigate it for a larger image or a room where light control is difficult. It is not a promise that the installed picture will look a fixed percentage better. Picture mode, screen material, image area, and ambient light influence what reaches your eyes.
Before treating brightness as the only solution, look for light striking the screen directly. A window or downlight can be a more useful problem to solve than changing the projector. Keep task lighting where players need it while avoiding unnecessary illumination of the projection surface.
Compare the complete installation cost
Write two equipment lists using the same screen and computer. Include the appropriate mount, signal cable run, power provision, and any structural work. One projector may cost less yet require a less convenient mounting location. The other may offer features you would never use.
Also decide how you will feed a 4K image to the projector. A 4K display does not automatically make simulation software run smoothly at 4K. Check the software and launch monitor requirements against your computer. Our golf simulator computers provide a starting point for matching the hardware to the intended resolution.
Which model belongs on your shortlist?
Consider the AK700ST first when its shorter throw range suits the bay and you value its setup features. Consider the LK936ST when the lens needs to sit farther back, optical shift is useful, or the higher rated brightness addresses your screen and lighting requirements.
When both fit, decide which benefits justify the difference in total cost. Do not pay for additional installation flexibility simply because it appears on a specification sheet; pay for it when your room needs it.
Questions before you buy
Can either projector be installed anywhere behind the golfer?
No. Establish the beam path and swing clearance for your actual layout. A short-throw label alone does not guarantee a safe or shadow-free position.
Does lens shift change the throw distance?
No. Picture position and picture size are separate planning considerations.
Are both models suitable for every impact screen?
Check screen dimensions, format, intended image size, and the supported projection range. An enclosure's outside width is not the same as its usable picture width.
