Fit a Wide Golf Image into a Shorter Projection Distance
Calculate the lens position
Multiply your intended image width by the projector’s throw ratio to estimate lens-to-screen distance. A 10-foot-wide image with a 0.5 ratio starts at approximately 5 feet; a 0.8 ratio starts at approximately 8 feet. Verify these dimensions against the manufacturer’s projection chart and supported image size.
Keep the beam and hardware clear
Position the lens so that the golfer does not block the projected image during normal use. At the same time, keep the housing and mount clear of the full club swing. Floor placement, ceiling placement and enclosure mounting have different protection and adjustment requirements. Short throw reduces projection distance; it does not remove the need for swing room.
Use one measurement unit from start to finish
For a planned 120-inch-wide image and a 0.5:1 throw ratio, the estimated lens distance is 60 inches. A 0.8:1 lens needs 96 inches for that same width. Measure from the lens, not the rear of the chassis. Then check offset, housing depth and the mounting hardware; the distance calculation alone does not establish a clear swing or a correctly positioned image.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does short throw mean the same distance on every projector?
No. Each lens has its own throw ratio or zoom range. Compare the exact ratio, including both ends of a zoom range if one is provided.
Should I use screen width or diagonal in the throw calculation?
Use image width for a throw-ratio calculation. Confirm that the manufacturer’s calculator uses the same aspect ratio and viewable image area.
Will a short throw projector eliminate shadows?
Correct placement can reduce interference, but the golfer’s position and beam path still matter. Check the proposed setup before fixing the mount.
