Measure length, width, thickness and support before replacing an insert or setting a launch monitor beside a raised floor.
Name the part by its job
A hitting strip receives club impact. A stance area supports the golfer. A landing pad covers space toward the screen. A putting surface supports ball roll. A complete simulator floor may combine several of these, but one component should not be assumed to replace another.
This distinction matters across Carl’s HotShot mats, SIGPRO flooring and mats, EZTee strips/turf, Spornia mats and The Net Return turf. Start with the product’s intended use and your exact configuration.
Measure a replacement in four ways
Record the opening’s length, width, total depth and the support beneath it. Measure the replacement itself, including backing or cushioning. Rounded corners, lips or retention features also matter. A strip with the right footprint can still sit too high, sink below the stance area or move because its backing is unsupported.
Before cutting an opening or altering a purchased component, confirm the fit and permitted installation method. Do not trim a part to make it fit while the mismatch is still unexplained.
Check the assembled floor
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Strike surface relative to stance surface | A height mismatch changes the lie and can create an unstable edge. |
| Support under the insert | Unintended gaps can change movement and feel. |
| Whole-mat movement | A sliding mat changes the player and ball position. |
| Trip edges and transitions | Raised foam, turf and landing pads need a deliberate transition. |
| Ball height relative to launch monitor | Calibration and ball detection may depend on the finished height. |
Install, then calibrate
Complete the flooring, seat the insert and establish the final ball position before calibrating a launch monitor. For a side-mounted device, compare the unit’s height with the hitting surface. For overhead equipment, use the final ball-height reference in its mounting instructions.
If you replace an insert with a different thickness, revisit those measurements even if the enclosure has not moved.
Investigate wear and movement
Inspect the strike area, seams and backing regularly. If a mat slips, check the supporting floor and the manufacturer-approved anti-movement method. Do not add loose layers that create rocking or an uneven stance. If the surface feels unusually harsh or uncomfortable, pause use and inspect the installation and condition.
For help choosing a replacement, send the mat model, opening dimensions, thickness and underside/support photos. A photo from above alone cannot establish whether a replacement will sit correctly.
