The best BenQ projector for SkyTrak depends on two things: what runs your golf software, and where the projector lens can sit. Start with the LK830ST for a close mounting position and a 4K-capable setup. Choose the AK700ST when you want 4K with optical zoom and Auto Screen Fit. Choose the AH700ST when Full HD suits your source and its longer throw fits the room.
This guide compares those three BenQ models for a SkyTrak build. It connects the purchase decision to your PC or iPad, screen shape, available lens position and total installation cost.
Choose your starting point
- A close projector position is essential: shortlist LK830ST first, then verify its fixed throw against your intended image size.
- You have a suitable 4K source and want easier screen alignment: shortlist AK700ST, provided the lens can sit within its throw range.
- You plan to play at 1080p and want automatic screen fitting: shortlist AH700ST. Preserve budget for a capable source device and a complete installation.
A projector can be the right resolution and still be the wrong purchase if it cannot fill your screen from the available mounting position.
What actually connects to a SkyTrak projector?
Your launch monitor supplies shot data to the device running the golf software. That computer or tablet supplies the picture to the projector. The projector is the display at the end of the system.
| Part of the system | Its job | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| SkyTrak launch monitor | Captures the shot and communicates with compatible golf software. | Your exact launch-monitor model, supported app and connection method. |
| PC or iPad | Runs the software and creates the course or practice-range image. | App compatibility, graphics performance and external-display output. |
| Adapter and HDMI cable | Carry the video signal to the projector. | Supported resolution and refresh rate across the complete connection. |
| BenQ projector | Displays that image on the impact screen. | Resolution, screen geometry and lens placement. |
Buying a different projector does not add a course-play subscription, make unsupported software work with your launch monitor, or increase the accuracy of captured shot data. Confirm the software and membership you intend to use before allocating the projector budget.
Pick the source device before paying for 4K
Windows PC: distinguish 4K output from playable 4K graphics
A PC may output a 3840 × 2160 desktop while struggling to render your chosen course smoothly at that setting. Check the requirements for the actual golf application and version, then consider how it performs at your intended resolution. SkyTrak publishes separate system guidance for different performance targets.
If the computer and software can deliver the image you want, LK830ST and AK700ST are the 4K options here. If you intend to run at 1080p, AH700ST remains a sensible candidate when its optics fit. Choose 4K for a planned benefit, such as a capable PC upgrade or another 4K source, rather than expecting it to repair slow rendering.
iPad: the connector and the app version both matter
First check that your exact iPad supports your intended SkyTrak software. As checked on October 18, 2026, SkyTrak lists M-series iPads (M1, M2, M3 and M4) for its v5-and-newer iOS application; its SkyTrak Lite list is different. An iPad having USB-C does not, by itself, establish app compatibility.
For a compatible older setup using Apple's Lightning Digital AV Adapter, external output is limited to up to 1080p. A 4K projector cannot recover original 4K detail that this connection never supplies. You might still choose LK830ST for its shorter throw or a future PC, but that is a separate reason to buy it.
USB-C iPad HDMI output varies by iPad and adapter. Some combinations support 4K at 60 Hz; others have lower limits. Even a supported 4K signal does not prove that your golf app renders courses in 4K or uses the entire external screen. Test the actual app, adapter and display settings.

LK830ST, AK700ST and AH700ST: the purchase differences
| Decision | LK830ST | AK700ST | AH700ST |
|---|---|---|---|
| 16:9 display resolution | 3840 × 2160 | 3840 × 2160 | 1920 × 1080 |
| Rated brightness / light source | 4,000 ANSI lumens / laser | 4,000 ANSI lumens / laser | 4,000 ANSI lumens / laser |
| Throw ratio | 0.496:1 | 0.69–0.83:1 | 0.69–0.83:1 |
| Optical zoom | Fixed | 1.2× | 1.2× |
| Screen-fitting approach | Screen Fill and manual geometry setup | Camera-assisted Auto Screen Fit | Camera-assisted Auto Screen Fit |
| Strongest reason to shortlist | A closer lens position with 4K | 4K plus zoom and automated alignment | Full HD plus zoom and automated alignment |
The shared brightness rating does not establish identical measured performance in every mode. It also does not tell you whether daylight falling on your impact screen will wash out the picture. Assess lighting and screen size separately.
Auto Screen Fit helps configure the image within the installation conditions described in the manuals. It cannot turn an unsuitable lens position into an unlimited optical range. AK700ST and AH700ST need a detectable screen border and appropriate setup geometry. For those details, see our Auto Screen Fit setup and troubleshooting guide.
Three room examples that change the recommendation
Measure the visible image area, excluding the frame and black border. Measure projection distance from the lens to the screen plane, not from the rear of the projector or the ceiling bracket.
The examples below are original planning calculations. They assume a centered image, a full-height 4:3 picture within a native 16:9 optical frame where applicable, and no digital shrinking or keystone correction.
Calculation: full 16:9 optical width = intended image height × 16 ÷ 9. Lens distance = full optical width × throw ratio. For a 16:9 image, use its actual width directly.
| Intended image | Full 16:9 optical width | LK830ST | AK700ST / AH700ST |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9 ft × 6.75 ft, 4:3 | 12 ft | 5.95 ft | 8.28–9.96 ft |
| 11 ft × 8.25 ft, 4:3 | 14.67 ft | 7.27 ft | 10.12–12.17 ft |
| 12 ft × 6.75 ft, 16:9 | 12 ft | 5.95 ft | 8.28–9.96 ft |
These are optical planning estimates, not final mounting coordinates. Confirm the manufacturer's projection table, image-size limits, vertical offset, screen-fitting allowance and real test pattern before fixing a mount. Check the full light path against the golfer, enclosure and club swing.
Example 1: a compact 4:3 screen and a close mounting position
You want a 9-foot-wide by 6.75-foot-high image, and a lens position near 5.95 feet is practical. You also have a PC intended for higher-resolution golf.
LK830ST is the first model to investigate. The two 700ST models need roughly 8.28–9.96 feet under these assumptions. Their automatic alignment does not replace that additional distance.
The reason to choose LK830ST here is the combination of close projection and 4K. Still check lens height and swing clearance; a short throw ratio alone does not certify a shadow-free or safe installation.
Example 2: keeping a lens position 10.8 feet from the screen
You want an 11-foot-wide by 8.25-foot-high 4:3 image. Your available lens position is 10.8 feet from the screen. That falls within the calculated AK700ST/AH700ST range.
Choose between those two using the source decision: AK700ST for a planned 4K-capable system, or AH700ST for a Full HD system. Their optical zoom provides room to size the image around that position.
LK830ST's calculated distance is approximately 7.27 feet for the same full-height image. Moving to LK830ST would therefore require a different placement or a separately evaluated digital-sizing plan. Its shorter throw is useful when the room needs it; it is not a drop-in substitute for every existing mount.
Example 3: why screen width alone can mislead
A 12-foot-wide 16:9 image and the 9-foot-wide 4:3 image in Example 1 share the same 6.75-foot height. Under this full-height calculation, they need the same full optical frame and therefore the same lens distance.
Multiplying the 9-foot 4:3 width directly by a native 16:9 throw ratio would give the wrong starting point. Decide the intended shape before calculating placement. Also check that the app can provide the desired shape without stretching the course or hiding controls.
For the LK830ST's aspect-ratio settings, see our LK830ST Screen Fill guide. Use the simulator calculator to develop your room plan, then verify the physical setup.
Compare the completed system cost
The projector with the lowest price can become the more expensive installation if it forces a new mount location, cable route or source-device upgrade. Compare the cost of reaching the same usable result.
| Budget line | Question to answer |
|---|---|
| Projector | Which model fits both the source and lens position? |
| PC or iPad | Can the device you own run the intended software and resolution? |
| Video connection | Do the adapter, cable and any switch support your target signal over the installed route? |
| Mounting and power | Can you use the planned location, or must you relocate hardware and power? |
| Screen and room | Does the visible image fit, with usable swing space and controlled light? |
| Software | Have you included any membership or course-play costs required by your chosen setup? |
With an existing compatible 1080p source and a suitable longer throw, AH700ST can be a coherent purchase. With a close lens position, LK830ST may solve a room constraint that the other two cannot solve optically. With a capable 4K source and a suitable longer mounting distance, AK700ST adds the alignment convenience that may matter more than the shortest possible throw.
Do this before ordering
- Identify the software: write down your SkyTrak model, golf app, version and required plan.
- Identify the source: record the exact computer or iPad, graphics hardware where relevant, and video adapter.
- Test the picture: use an available HDMI display to check that the app, menus and shot data appear correctly while the launch monitor stays connected. This checks the signal path; it does not validate projector throw.
- Measure the image and lens position: record visible width, visible height, lens-to-screen distance and planned lens height.
- Check the room: account for golfer position, left- and right-handed use, swing clearance, the light path and light falling on the screen.
- Price the complete connection: include the mount, power, cable route and any source upgrade before comparing projector prices.
SkyTrak projector questions
Does SkyTrak need a 4K projector?
No. Choose resolution around the software image you can produce and the display quality you want. Full HD can be an intentional choice. A 4K model becomes more compelling when the source, software and installation can use its additional detail.
Can I connect the projector directly to the SkyTrak launch monitor?
The normal video path is from the computer or tablet running the software to the projector. The launch monitor's connection to that device carries shot data; it is a separate connection from HDMI video output.
Will Auto Screen Fit remove black bars from an iPad app?
Physical screen fitting and source-image formatting are different problems. If the source already includes black bars inside the transmitted picture, automatic alignment cannot recreate missing course content. Check the app and external-display behavior first; cropping can also remove useful controls.
Is LK830ST always the best choice for a small room?
It deserves an early look when a close lens position is necessary. The final choice still depends on image size, lens height, mounting space and the swing area. Its fixed optical throw rewards accurate planning.
Can I keep my current projector mount?
Check both the mount's physical compatibility and the resulting lens position. Different chassis dimensions can put the new lens in a different place even when the ceiling bracket stays put. Recalculate using the new lens location.
