Garage Golf Simulator Setup: A Room Worksheet Before You Buy

Measure a shared garage in its playing and parking states, then choose the screen, monitor and projector from one consistent plan.

The best garage simulator layout works both while you are playing and after the garage returns to everyday use. A room's nominal width and depth do not capture the door mechanism, storage, floor slope or the space occupied by a parked vehicle.

Before comparing packages, make a measured drawing of the actual usable area. That drawing will help you choose between a fixed enclosure, retractable screen and practice-net setup without buying components that compete for the same space.

Measure the garage in two states

Item Playing state Stored or parking state
Garage door Position intended during play Full path of door and opener
Screen or net Deployed plane and side coverage Housing, folded net or remaining frame
Mat Final hitting and stance position Stored footprint or parking conflict
Launch monitor Approved operating position Remains mounted or stored safely
Projector and PC Clear beam, protected location and cables Clearance from vehicle and moving hardware

Do not assume the door's position during play is acceptable without checking the system and room. The required mounting and clearance instructions for the selected products govern the installation.

Find the actual swing area

Mark a possible tee position and the final standing height. Check the full swing of each intended player and the clubs they plan to use, with sufficient clear space and without striking near an obstruction. A quoted minimum ceiling height cannot guarantee a fit for every golfer.

Include door tracks, opener rails, lights and storage above or beside the swing. A ceiling can be high in the center and unsuitable where the club actually travels. If the floor slopes, account for how the playing platform or mat will be supported and leveled according to its instructions.

Do not buy an overhead monitor before resolving the finished floor height. Adding a raised floor later changes both swing headroom and the sensor's height above the ball.

Choose the containment format

A fixed enclosure such as SIG10 can create a defined permanent bay if the room can keep its full footprint available. A Carl DIY Kit provides configurable choices that should be compared by finished size and included components.

A retractable system such as HomeCourse ProScreen 180 or G-TRAK Screen can free the screen area when stored, but the rest of the simulator still needs a storage plan. A net such as Spornia SPG-7 may suit practice without immediate projection, with any later screen conversion checked for compatibility.

Select the format based on the room's repeated use, not only the fastest-looking setup video.

Fit the launch monitor to the remaining geometry

A behind-ball radar unit needs the specified space behind the tee and the required flight area toward the screen. A beside-ball camera unit occupies space near the mat. An overhead unit needs a compatible ceiling position and height.

These differences can decide the purchase in a garage. A floor unit might be easier to remove but require realignment each session. An overhead unit might remain ready to use but conflict with the opener or door path.

For EYE MINI LITE, plan its indoor power and PC connection. For EYE XR, plan the rear ceiling position. Do not treat those two options as interchangeable just because both can serve an indoor simulator.

Calculate projector distance from the chosen screen

Once the screen plane and visible image dimensions are settled, calculate the projector's lens position. Use image width and the appropriate native frame, not the enclosure's outside width.

For example, a LK830ST at its published 0.496:1 ratio needs about 5.95 feet for a 12-foot-wide native 16:9 image. An AK700ST with a 0.69–0.83 range needs about 8.28–9.96 feet for that same native image width. Those different positions can interact very differently with garage hardware and the golfer.

This example does not establish that either layout fits a particular garage. It shows why the projector needs a place on the same drawing as the screen and tee. Use our simulator calculator and verify against the model's installation guide.

Make setup repeatable

If the mat and monitor move, identify a repeatable positioning and alignment method allowed by their instructions. Keep cables from crossing vehicle paths or the playing area in a way that creates a snag or trip hazard.

Write a short sequence for opening the simulator and storing it. Include inspection of the screen or net, monitor alignment and removal of unrelated objects from the area. A setup that requires too much rearranging may be used less often than a simpler, well-planned one.

Order only after the drawing is complete

Your purchase plan should identify the deployed and stored dimensions, finished floor height, screen clearance, monitor position, projector lens point and PC location. Add all mounts, side protection, cables and software to the quote.

That makes the garage project a coordinated build. It also shows which component should change if the room does not fit, instead of discovering the conflict after several boxes arrive.

Once the door path, usable dimensions and ball position are recorded, configure your garage simulator in the Builder. Compare the monitor, enclosure, projector and mat against this same worksheet, then save the build link with the room measurements.

Plan your next step

Use the room worksheet to shortlist the linked products. Continue with the home simulator building guide once the layout is confirmed.
