Permanent indoor golf bay with a wide impact screen, padded dark walls and green turf.

HomeCourse ProScreen 180 vs SIG10 and Carl’s DIY: Retractable or Fixed?

Compare HomeCourse, SIG10 and Carl’s DIY by room use, included parts and accessory-complete costs. Choose retractable or fixed before buying electronics.

Choose HomeCourse ProScreen 180 when the screen area must clear between sessions. Choose SIG10 or Carl’s DIY when a permanent bay suits the room. Between the fixed options, compare the exact accessory and floor package you want rather than assuming one enclosure price represents the whole installation.

This three-way comparison keeps the projector and launch monitor out of the initial decision. They can be chosen after the screen arrangement passes the room-use test.

Compare what each order actually contains

The following configurations are deliberately named so that a starting price is not mistaken for a complete simulator.

Configuration Listed price What this comparison includes Still separate
HomeCourse ProScreen 180 $2,299 Retractable screen/enclosure, supplied ceiling kit and operating accessories Hitting mat, floor treatment, additional wall/rack hardware if chosen, electronics
SIG10 enclosure, Premium white $1,999.99 Listed fixed enclosure and impact-screen components Hitting mat, landing turf, electronics and any additional protection
Carl’s DIY Premium 8 × 10.5 package $2,730 Enclosure plus its listed pipes, rear-cover parts, net extensions, baffle and foam Hitting mat, floor treatment and electronics

These are different scopes. The Carl’s entry is the accessory package, not the less expensive base kit. The SIG10 entry is the enclosure, not the Studio. The HomeCourse entry uses the supplied ceiling route, not the optional rack.

A more useful floor-and-protection comparison

To see how quickly headline differences change, add explicit floor components rather than assuming the same contents.

Reference purchase Calculation Equipment subtotal
HomeCourse with landing pad, side nets and HotShot 4 × 5 Standard Insert $2,299 + $250 + $199 + $499.95 $3,247.95
SIG10 Studio, Fairway Series 5 × 5 / Premium white Selected Studio with its mat and landing turf $3,399.99
Carl’s selected package with HotShot 4 × 5 Standard Insert $2,730 + $499.95 $3,229.95, plus landing-floor treatment

The HomeCourse example is $152.04 below the selected SIG10 Studio before mounting adaptations and other site costs. The Carl’s example is $170.04 below it before adding its missing landing-floor treatment. Those small gaps show why “retractable is always more expensive” and “DIY is always cheapest” are unreliable conclusions from product names alone.

The configurations still have different dimensions and protection arrangements. They are transparent reference orders, not a claim of identical safety coverage or equivalent playing area. Taxes, applicable shipping, mounts, installation and electronics are excluded.

The room-use test: deployed, stored and maintained

During play, all three need a suitable hitting position, swing clearance, screen clearance and equipment layout. A retractable mechanism does not reduce the room a golfer occupies during the swing.

After play, HomeCourse can retract its screen assembly. Your mat, pad, side-net restraints and floor equipment need their own storage plan. A fixed SIG10 or Carl’s bay remains a structure in the room; plan another use around it rather than assuming daily disassembly will be convenient.

During maintenance, every system needs access. Leave a way to inspect the screen, reach fasteners and service cables. A room that is tightly packed in normal use can be frustrating when a wear item needs replacing.

If the room’s second use is essential parking a car, using exercise equipment or accessing storage draw that second state before buying. If the second use is only hypothetical, avoid paying for a complicated routine you do not need.

The fixed-bay decision: SIG10 or Carl’s package?

The SIG10 Studio is attractive when its selected mat and landing turf match your plan. You can choose the tracking and projection separately while starting with a coordinated physical bay.

The Carl’s package is attractive when its enclosure accessory set fits your room and you prefer to specify the floor independently. In the selected configuration, the pipes and listed protective accessories are already included; there is no need to price them again as missing parts.

Neither choice wins simply from the nominal size. Compare exact outside dimensions, usable screen area and the floor arrangement. Our Carl’s DIY versus SIG10 guide covers the detailed fixed-frame comparison.

How the enclosure choice affects the electronics

For HomeCourse, decide the arm position and usable image shape before selecting a projector. A central tall image and an extended widescreen arrangement can require different settings or geometry. The HomeCourse projector guide explains the calculation.

For a fixed bay, choose a repeatable screen and hitting position, then fit the projector and monitor around them. Do not assume the same ceiling point works for every screen width or aspect ratio.

If you use an overhead monitor, its mounting requirements remain fixed by the monitor documentation. Retracting the screen does not retract the monitor, and moving the mat after each session requires a reliable way to restore the ball position.

Choose by the problem you need to solve

Your main requirement Best starting point
Recover the screen area for another daily use HomeCourse, with a complete storage plan
Buy a fixed bay with a selected mat and landing turf SIG10 Studio
Choose a fixed enclosure accessory package and design the floor separately Carl’s DIY package
Reuse a suitable mat and existing electronics Compare enclosure-only and package contents against your owned parts
Avoid permanent overhead or wall work Investigate approved freestanding/rack options and their footprint; do not assume every frame route is identical

Is HomeCourse a full simulator?

No. It is the retractable screen/enclosure portion. Add the monitor, projection source, projector, hitting surface and software needed for your chosen system.

Is the Carl’s package ready without buying pipes?

The selected package in this article includes its matching pipes. The separate base kit has different contents. Use the exact product and variant when reviewing the order.

Does the SIG10 Studio include a projector by default?

Do not assume it does. Our selected configuration prices the physical bay, mat and turf. Optional projector equipment must be explicitly included in the configuration or quoted separately.

Compare the HomeCourse, SIG10 enclosure, SIG10 Studio and Carl’s package using the room’s actual daily routine. That decision is more durable than picking whichever headline price looks lowest.
