SIG DIY vs SIG8, SIG10 and SIG12: Which Enclosure Route Fits?

Separate screen size from frame supply when comparing SIG DIY with the three push-pin SIG enclosure models.

Choose between SIG DIY and SIG8, SIG10 or SIG12 by separating the size you need from the frame you want supplied. SIG DIY uses connectors with separately sourced or separately ordered 1-inch EMT pipes. The SIG8, SIG10 and SIG12 enclosure listings include their push-pin frame components.

Some SIG DIY options have the same listed outside dimensions as a numbered SIG enclosure. Others provide different aspect ratios and footprints. The useful comparison is the exact selected option, not a general assumption that “DIY” always means smaller or cheaper.

Where the enclosure dimensions match

Matching listed outside dimensions, width × height × depth
Numbered enclosure Listed outside dimensions Matching SIG DIY option
SIG8 8 ft 4 in × 8 ft 4 in × 5 ft 8 ft 4 in × 8 ft 4 in × 5 ft, 1:1
SIG10 10 ft 10 in × 8 ft 4 in × 5 ft 10 ft 10 in × 8 ft 4 in × 5 ft, 4:3
SIG12 12 ft 2 in × 9 ft 4 in × 5 ft 12 ft 2 in × 9 ft 4 in × 5 ft, 4:3

These matching footprint labels do not establish that every screen, connector, bungee or replacement part is interchangeable. Order parts for the exact enclosure model. Also verify the screen’s usable dimensions separately when planning projection.

The main buying difference is the frame

What changes between the two routes

How is the frame specified? 1-inch EMT with the selected size’s cut list and connectors The model’s supplied push-pin frame system
Can you source the frame locally? Yes, using the specified material and cut list Use the supplied system and matching replacement parts
How many standard screen shapes are listed? The reviewed options include 1:1, 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 SIG8 is 1:1; SIG10 and SIG12 are 4:3

Review the SIG DIY enclosure kit alongside the SIG8, SIG10 or SIG12 that matches your room. If you prefer a pre-cut DIY frame, check the separately listed SIG DIY pipe frame kit for the exact selected dimensions.

When the DIY size range changes the decision

A different aspect ratio can be a stronger reason to choose SIG DIY than the starting price. For example, the reviewed DIY options include a 13 ft 7 in wide × 7 ft 11 in high × 5 ft deep enclosure labeled 16:9. That is a different shape from the square SIG8 and the 4:3 SIG10 or SIG12.

Use the actual viewing area to check image height and projector placement. The enclosure’s outside height does not equal the picture height, and a wider frame does not guarantee a comfortable swing or a suitable projector location.

If your room fits one of the numbered models and you want its supplied frame system, compare that convenience directly with the sourcing work of the matching DIY option. You do not need to select an unusual size simply because the DIY range offers one.

Build a complete pipe-sourcing plan

  1. Save the exact enclosure size and aspect ratio from the selected option.
  2. Obtain the manual and pipe-cut appendix for that option.
  3. Confirm the specified EMT material with the supplier. Trade size and measured outside diameter are different descriptions.
  4. Plan transport, cutting and identification of the pieces before delivery.
  5. Match each cut piece to the assembly diagram before building the frame.

Do not derive pipe lengths by subtracting an estimated connector allowance from the advertised enclosure dimensions. The manufacturer’s cut list accounts for the intended fittings and layout. A neighboring size’s manual is not a reliable substitute.

Compare the full price rather than the entry price

For SIG DIY, add the enclosure, matching frame solution, transport or delivery, cutting work and any missing accessories. For the numbered enclosure, start with the included frame and add only the items absent from that listing. Match the screen material and usable size before comparing totals.

Keep any mat, landing turf, projector, launch monitor and software on separate lines. A Studio listing is a different bundle from an enclosure-only listing, so confirm the selected Studio’s inclusions if that is the product in your cart.

Do not turn the frame into an assumed electronics mount

A structure that holds a screen is not automatically an approved support for an overhead launch monitor or projector. The Indoor Golf Shop identifies SIGPRO Commercial as its enclosure line designed for compatible frame-mounted electronics. Do not extend that claim to SIG DIY or the numbered SIG enclosures.

If mounting electronics to the enclosure is essential, evaluate the SIGPRO Commercial enclosure and its specified mounting arrangement. Otherwise, plan an appropriate separate mounting solution for the equipment.

Three practical selection cases

  • Your room fits SIG10 and you want a supplied frame: investigate the SIG10 listing first, then compare its complete cost with the same-size DIY route.
  • You need one of the listed widescreen DIY shapes: start with that option’s actual dimensions and pipe plan, then confirm projection.
  • You need an enclosure-supported overhead device: resolve the compatible Commercial configuration before choosing a frame based only on size.

For the size decision within the numbered range, use our SIG8 vs SIG10 and SIG10 vs SIG12 guides. This comparison helps you choose the frame route; those guides help you choose between the individual numbered sizes.
