The Spornia SPG-7 and SPG-8 address the same basic need: a dedicated target for golf practice that can be packed away. The larger option provides more coverage, but it also asks more from your room, storage space, and setup routine.
Start with the SPG-7 and SPG-8 XL listings. Choose the size that fits the whole practice station not simply the largest net you can place against a wall.
Nominal size is only the starting point
Spornia identifies the SPG-7 as its nominal seven-foot model and the SPG-8 as its nominal eight-foot model. The roof extends above the main net, so a ceiling that clears the headline size may not clear the complete setup.
Check the current dimensions and roof configuration on the exact model before ordering. Different summaries can describe the base, main frame, or roof height differently. Measure the fully assembled envelope rather than relying on a shortened product name.

Map the net, ball, golfer, and space behind the golfer
A practice net's depth is not the complete length required for a hitting station. You also need a suitable ball position, mat, swing space, and the manufacturer's required clearances. A radar or camera launch monitor can add its own positioning requirements.
Draw the setup from above. Mark the target face, front edge of the net, ball, golfer, and longest club. Then check the side view for the roof, ceiling fixtures, and follow-through. This process is more useful than assuming one minimum room dimension fits every player and net.
For a garage, include the door mechanism in both open and closed positions. For outdoor use, follow the instructions for securing the net and inspecting its condition. Keep people, windows, and fragile objects outside potential ball paths.
What the larger SPG-8 buys you
The larger target and structure may be useful when your available space supports a bigger practice area. But extra coverage should not encourage hitting from an unsuitable position or omitting needed side protection.
The SPG-7 may be easier to accommodate where footprint and storage are priorities. That does not mean it is automatically the right choice for a low ceiling: the roof and the golfer's swing still need to fit.
| Your priority | What to compare |
|---|---|
| More coverage | Target size and the complete assembled envelope |
| Limited ceiling height | Roof height and the golfer's actual swing |
| Frequent storage | Carry dimensions, handling, and a clear packing area |
| Simulator use | Correct projection target, image format, and monitor placement |
A net is not a complete simulator
A net can provide a target for practice without displaying a virtual course. Adding projection requires an appropriate white projection target, projector, launch monitor, software, and any necessary computer hardware.
Spornia's projection-target information distinguishes a 64-by-64-inch SPG-7 option from a 75-by-75-inch SPG-8 option. Both are square, so projector formatting deserves attention. Check the correct size when selecting our Spornia simulator target sheet; it should not be assumed part of the standard net purchase.
A 16:9 projector and a square target are not naturally the same shape. Decide how much of the target will display an image and verify that the projected frame fits without spilling beyond the intended area.
Plan side protection and the hitting surface
Side netting can be useful where errant shots might escape toward the room. Our Spornia side extensions should be checked against the selected net and your installation instructions. They are not a substitute for using a suitable hitting position or keeping bystanders clear.
Select a stable hitting mat with enough stance area. Organize balls and cables outside walking routes, especially when the net is assembled and removed regularly. A convenient storage routine helps keep the space usable without leaving partially packed equipment in the way.
When would we choose each?
Shortlist SPG-7 when its coverage meets your needs and the complete arrangement fits more comfortably in the available space. Shortlist SPG-8 when larger coverage is a priority and the additional footprint and roof height are not constraints.
Do not choose purely from photographs. Perspective can make different nets appear similar in size, while the assembled dimensions reveal the difference.
Frequently asked questions
Can I assume an eight-foot ceiling clears SPG-8?
No. The roof extends above the nominal frame height, and swing clearance must be assessed separately.
Does a practice net measure ball flight?
No. Shot measurement requires suitable launch-monitor hardware.
Can I use the same projection target on either size?
Choose the target specified for your net. The manufacturer's listed SPG-7 and SPG-8 target dimensions differ.
