The Carl DIY Kit and SIG DIY Kit both let you build an enclosure around separately purchased framing pipe. Compare the completed kit, not just the starting screen-and-surround price. Pipe, padding, screen selection and the outside frame measurements can change the purchase substantially.
This comparison is specifically Carl's Place C-Series DIY versus SIG DIY. SIG DIY is a different product from the SIG10 enclosure covered in our Carl's DIY vs SIG10 guide.
What is included, and what needs another line in the budget?

For a pre-cut frame, compare the Carl Pipe Kit or SIG Pipe Kit in the exact matching size. If sourcing locally, use the cut sheet for the selected enclosure. Both DIY systems reference 1-inch EMT, but that trade name is not a promise that any tube with a measured one-inch outside diameter will fit.
Price the same finished result
Start two columns with the exact screen material and outside size you want. Add pipe, cutting or delivery charges, padding not included, side protection, landing surface and any rear light-blocking cover. Include sales tax and shipping where applicable before declaring one kit cheaper.
A lower starting price can be attractive if you already have the tools and can source pipe conveniently. A pre-cut pipe kit may be worth more to a buyer whose local supplier cannot cut accurately or whose installation schedule is tight. Compare those real costs rather than treating your own time and transport as automatically free.
Do not compare Carl's entry screen material against SIG's selected premium material and call it a like-for-like screen test. Material choice, construction and frame fit need to be visible in the quote.
The listing size is not always the outside measurement
Carl's 8-by-8-foot listing has outside frame dimensions of 100 by 100 inches in our current product details. That is 8 feet 4 inches each way. The listed 59.125-inch screen-to-front depth also excludes an 8.25-inch rear backset, producing a 67.375-inch frame footprint.
SIG DIY lists an 8-foot-4-inch square option with a five-foot enclosure depth. Its assembly guidance calls for additional clearance above the overall frame. Matching nominal labels is therefore not enough; compare outside dimensions and assembly allowances on the actual drawings.
Here is a useful planning test: if you have a wall opening 100 inches wide, a 100-inch frame is not automatically installable. You still need the manufacturer's assembly clearance and room to connect and position the structure. A zero-clearance fit on paper is a question for the installer, not a completed design.
Choose the screen shape before the projector
Both ranges offer multiple shapes or sizes. Decide the visible image rectangle, then check your projector's native aspect ratio and throw range. A taller impact screen can be useful for catching shots even when the projected image does not use its full height.
Use our screen aspect-ratio guide to distinguish outside enclosure width, visible screen width and projected image width. Keep all three on the order worksheet so the screen and projector are selected together.
Bounce-back and containment are installation questions too
Screen tension, distance behind the screen, impact position and surrounding protection influence how the bay behaves. Follow the chosen manufacturer's instructions for fastening and clearances. Do not assume that tightening every bungee as far as possible produces the best result.
Check the route of high-loft shots and off-center misses. The frame's presence does not mean every exposed hard surface is protected. Confirm which padding, roof protection and side extensions belong in the exact kit you intend to assemble.
Which DIY enclosure belongs on your shortlist?
Choose based on the finished geometry, desired screen material and the convenience of completing the frame. Carl's Place offers a configurable material-and-accessory route; SIG DIY's listed inclusion of protective foam belongs in the cost comparison. Neither is a universal winner without the size and material selections.
Send the room width, ceiling height, planned image shape and chosen screen material with your two product options. We can then compare complete configurations instead of two base prices that leave different parts unpriced.
