Set up the image for your BenQ model, diagnose geometry conflicts and verify which settings return when you recall a saved golf configuration.

BenQ projector distance from the screen: check the image first

Start with the image shape, then calculate lens position. For an unscaled native 16:9 image, lens-to-screen distance equals image width multiplied by throw ratio. Measure from the lens reference point in the model's installation drawing, not from the rear of the projector or the ceiling plate.

The following worked example uses a 10 ft wide, 16:9 image without digital shrinking or keystone correction. It is an optical estimate, not a mounting instruction for a 10 ft wide square or 4:3 screen.

Model Resolution Published throw ratio Example distance
AK700ST 4K UHD 0.69–0.83 6.9–8.3 ft
AH700ST 1080p 0.69–0.83 6.9–8.3 ft
LK830ST 4K UHD 0.496 4.96 ft
AH500ST 1080p 0.499 4.99 ft
LH860ST 1080p 0.50 5.0 ft
LK936ST 4K UHD 0.81–0.89 8.1–8.9 ft

Why a 4:3 screen changes the answer: a 10 ft wide × 7.5 ft high image occupies a taller shape. A native 16:9 raster containing that full height is approximately 13.33 ft wide. At the AK700ST's 0.69–0.83 optical ratio, that gives an illustrative distance of about 9.2–11.1 ft before model-specific Screen Fill behavior or correction. Multiplying the 10 ft visible width alone would produce a different answer. Confirm the actual aspect-ratio mode with the calculator and model manual before fixing the mount.

AK700ST and AH700ST share a published throw range, but their output resolution differs. LK830ST, AH500ST and LH860ST belong to the approximately 0.5 throw group; that does not make their offset, mounting height or controls interchangeable. For the full selection guide, see our six-model BenQ comparison.

What to check before buying a ceiling or enclosure mount

  • Physical fit: mounting-hole pattern, screw specification, load rating and clearance around the projector body.
  • Optical fit: lens-to-screen distance, lens height, offset and any permitted lens shift. A longer drop changes the lens position and the space beneath it.
  • Playing fit: projector and bracket outside both golfers' swing paths; a clear beam to the screen; no conflict with an overhead launch monitor.
  • Cable fit: access to the selected HDMI input, sufficient cable slack and ventilation after mounting.

For a worked placement worksheet, use AK700ST ceiling-mount planning. If you are attaching a projector to a Carl's enclosure, read the frame-mount compatibility guide and verify the enclosure family and mount load. A shared brand name does not establish a safe mechanical fit.

Send us the usable screen width and height, ceiling height, proposed lens position and hitting position through our contact page if the drawing and your room do not agree.

Use the Golf Simulator Calculator for supported models, selecting the actual aspect ratio. Check its placement against the model’s installation drawing, including offset, permitted orientation and ventilation.

Confirm the model before following a video

Read the model from the unit or carton. Our catalog includes AK700ST, AH700ST, AH500ST, LH860ST, LK830ST, LK936ST, LU935, LU935ST, LK935, LU960ST2 and LU9800. Similar names do not mean the same lens, resolution, inputs or geometry controls.

The AK700ST and AH700ST have dedicated BenQ Auto Screen Fit guidance. Do not apply that workflow automatically to the LK830ST, LK936ST or the rest of the range. Use the setup resources for the named model and the controls actually present in its menu.

First-image sequence

  1. Connect a known video source directly by HDMI and select the matching input.
  2. Choose the projection orientation for your actual mounting arrangement.
  3. Establish a correctly sized, focused image using the model’s optical controls.
  4. On a model with Auto Screen Fit, follow BenQ’s stated room and screen conditions, then inspect all edges yourself. Keep the screen boundary unobstructed during the process.
  5. Set the computer’s supported display resolution and open a practice screen before making color or brightness adjustments.
  6. Check the whole swing path and both player orientations where required.

If the result is not right

Use the projector’s own menu to separate a focus issue from a computer-rendering issue. For a black image, go to No signal. For borders, clipping or inconsistent sharpness, go to Image fit.

For the QCast Mirror EZC5201BS, distinguish wireless screen mirroring from the projector’s direct video connection. Establish a working wired picture first. A successful mirroring session does not establish the latency or stability your simulator requires.

When a BenQ image changes after another adjustment

If a picture fitted correctly and then changed, write down the last control you used before adjusting the mount. A setting can replace an earlier correction. Record the exact model, the current input and the values that changed; “the image moved” is less useful than knowing that one corner value returned to zero.

LK830ST: check the interaction between Corner Fit and automatic keystone

On the LK830ST, adjusting Corner Fit turns Auto Vertical Keystone off. Turning Auto Vertical Keystone on resets Corner Fit to zero. Decide which correction you intend to use, then inspect the resulting values before continuing. Repeating both operations can undo the corner adjustment you just made.

Warping introduces another dependency on this model: it makes Keystone, Aspect Ratio, Corner Fit, Digital Shrink & Shift, Blanking and Screen Fill unavailable. If several controls become inaccessible together, check whether Warping is active. An installer may have configured it deliberately, so record the current setup before changing that workflow.

These interactions are documented in the LK830ST manual, page 40. They should not be assumed to apply identically to another BenQ. For an AK700ST or AH700ST that cannot complete screen detection, use the separate Auto Screen Fit troubleshooting guide.

Choose the control that can move the image you have

Digital Shrink & Shift needs room to work. The AK700ST, AH500ST, LK830ST and LK936ST manuals describe reducing the image first, then pressing OK to enter digital shifting. At full size, expecting the arrows to move the whole picture can make a working control appear unresponsive.

Digital shifting repositions the reduced picture within the available projected area. It does not relocate the projector or create additional clearance for a swing. After reducing and shifting, inspect small interface text and all four edges. If the useful picture becomes too small for your screen, return to the physical placement check before accepting the result.

See AH500ST manual, page 43, and the corresponding Image Resizing section in your model’s manual.

LK936ST: distinguish a physical adjustment from a recalled setting

Moving the LK936ST lens with its knobs and shifting a reduced picture electronically are separate operations. If the mounting position needs optical movement, use the LK936ST lens-shift worksheet. Keep the final physical position in your installation record when testing memory recall.

Save a working setup and check what your model restores

A saved picture mode is not evidence that every installation setting has been saved. Image Memory provides a way to save and apply groups of settings on the models below, but their documented contents differ. Keep a record of the physical installation alongside the electronic preset.

What to verify before relying on a saved configuration
Model Documented distinction Practical check
AK700ST Image Memory includes zoom, focus, Screen Fill and geometry settings. Verify image size and focus after recall, as well as picture mode.
AH700ST Image Memory includes zoom, Screen Fill, Corner Fit and 2D Keystone. Recheck focus separately; it is not included in the manual’s saved-field list.
LK830ST The manual describes saved settings by source and timing, including Screen Fill and geometry. Record the input and detected signal alongside the memory name.
LK936ST Image Memory stores listed electronic settings. Optical zoom, focus and lens shift use physical controls. Record the physical adjustment separately; recalling a preset will not turn those controls.

For AH500ST or LH860ST, keep a written and photographic setup record and consult that model’s manual for its available controls. The memory instructions above are not a promise that another model has the same menu.

Verify the restored setup before finishing

Use this comparison after the installation already produces a satisfactory picture. It checks whether you can return to that result without starting the adjustment process again.

  1. Create a reference. With the golf PC connected, photograph the whole image and record input, detected resolution, Screen Fill or aspect ratio, and relevant geometry values. Note the screen position and lens location.
  2. Save deliberately. Where Image Memory is supported, save to an identified slot and give it a short name such as GOLF-PC. Check the selected slot before saving over an existing configuration.
  3. Test recall. Exit the menu, then apply the saved golf memory. If you already use a second verified preset, switch to it and back. Compare the returned settings with your reference.
  4. Check the actual content. Display a border, a circle and small text near each corner, then open the simulator’s menus. Confirm that proportions, readable text and visible controls match the reference.
  5. Check the next start. Complete a normal shutdown and startup using the model’s instructions. Apply the golf memory if needed and repeat the comparison before calling the setup repeatable.

If the result still differs, send our team the model, memory name, input, detected signal and before-and-after photos. Identify the first mismatch in the table. That gives us a specific setting or installation change to investigate.
