Identify dirt, fold lines, water marks and wear before treating an impact screen. Follow the separate Carl’s and SIGPRO cleaning, drying and wrinkle guidance.

Identify the material before choosing a care method

Confirm the screen brand, material and edge finish before cleaning or tensioning. Carl’s Premium, SIG Preferred, SIGPRO Premium, SIGPRO Premier, raw material and retractable-screen systems are not one fabric with one universal treatment.

Remove sources of repeated contamination first: dirty or scuffed balls, club marks transferred through the ball, dusty floor areas or handling with dirty hands. Use clean equipment and inspect balls regularly.

Match the cleaning response to the mark

Use the history of the mark to choose what to investigate. A line present when the screen was unfolded, a spot after a dirty ball strike and a ring that appeared after washing provide different clues. Photograph the area with the projector off, then with a normal image displayed. The comparison records both the material’s appearance and the effect on the picture; it does not prove what caused the mark.

Choose an investigation before choosing a cleaner
What changed? First route Information to keep
A crease was present on unpacking Installation and wrinkle checks When the screen was unpacked and when it was hung.
A visible spot followed contact with dirt The applicable brand’s cleaning guidance The likely contaminant and any treatment already used.
A ring appeared after the screen became wet Review the cleaning and drying process Liquid, cleaner, equipment and drying method.
The strike area has changed gradually with use Assess wear as well as dirt Whether the change affects only appearance or also the material and attachment points.

Before treating a crease, inspect the full frame and attachment points. Compare the screen’s size and orientation with its installation instructions, and check for contact behind the fabric. A line that changes with an attachment adjustment calls for an installation review before another cleaning attempt.

Inspect wear, not just appearance

Check for cuts, holes, damaged attachment points, thinning areas and exposed hard surfaces. A cosmetic mark and a compromised impact surface need different decisions. Stop use if containment or material integrity is in doubt.

For a retractable system, keep the material clean and dry as specified before storing it, and check that nothing catches during retraction. Follow its replacement instructions rather than treating the screen as a freely removable sheet.

Carl’s impact screens: start with the mild cleaning method

Carl’s guide, How To Clean Your Golf Impact Screen, and Make It Last, begins with a damp cloth and a small amount of dish soap for minor dirt or stains. It recommends progressing from a mild method only when needed. Treat this as a response to identified contamination; repeated cleaning cannot be assumed to remove every change in the fabric.

Plan the drying step before wetting the area. Carl’s recommends a fan or a hairdryer using low or no heat on damp sections, because leaving them to air-dry can produce liquid stains. Its guide rules out abrasive cleaning, high-heat steamers, dry cleaning and washing machines. If you already used another treatment, record it before trying a different one.

Recognize the limit of cleaning an impact mark

Carl’s also explains that spinning balls can leave marks during normal use. A persistent mark therefore deserves inspection before another round of cleaning. Compare its appearance with the photograph taken before treatment. If a cleaner reduced surrounding dirt but left the central impact mark unchanged, report that result accurately rather than assuming a stronger treatment will restore the original surface.

Carl’s cabled screen creases: check the hanging arrangement

Carl’s separates the tensioning approach for cabled screens from that for older screens without a cable. Pulling a cabled screen excessively can distort the fabric and interfere with its fit. If a C-Series DIY screen lifts off the floor during wrinkle adjustment, use the DIY cable and attachment checks after matching the documented V12 hardware. Pro and Built-In kits need their own assembly instructions.

Carl’s How to tension your golf simulator screen, and get rid of wrinkles describes time for the hanging fabric to settle and a clean domestic steamer filled with distilled water. Its cleaning guide adds two restrictions for heat treatment: use the lowest heat setting and work from the back of the material. Confirm that the guidance applies to your actual Carl’s impact material before introducing heat or moisture, especially if the screen’s identity is uncertain.

SIGPRO: keep cleaning and wrinkle treatment separate

For dirt and stains

The Indoor Golf Shop’s How to Clean and Prevent Dirty Golf Simulator Screens identifies a carpet shampooer as a cleaning method for SIGPRO impact screens. It directs owners to dry wet areas promptly and evenly with a fan or low-heat hairdryer to help avoid water marks. The article does not supply a universal detergent recipe for every machine, so record the product and equipment used if you need help choosing the next treatment.

For fold lines

The manufacturer’s separate wrinkle guide explains that hanging, weight and time can relax fold marks over days or weeks. It also describes a clean consumer steamer filled with distilled water. Before treating a line as a shipping crease, check whether it appeared only when one edge was tightened or the frame was moved. That timing makes the installation worth investigating first.

For a standard SIG8, SIG10 or SIG12, use the screen and surround attachment checks. Keep the cleaning decision specific to the SIGPRO material you have. These care steps should not be transferred to a retractable screen or unidentified fabric solely because it looks similar.

Record the result before repeating a treatment

A useful care record has five items: the screen identity, a before photograph, the cleaner or water used, the drying method and an after photograph taken once the treated area is dry. Add whether the mark improved, stayed the same or changed shape. Keep installation adjustments in a separate note so the effect of cleaning remains distinguishable.

Send that record to Indoor Golf Kit support if the next step is unclear. If your concern includes aggressive rebound or a change in containment, use the impact-behavior checklist alongside the care review. Cosmetic improvement alone does not establish that the installation or impact surface is ready for use.
